How to adjust the size of a data entry field on a form

I used the wizard to create a form in my database. The data entry field is much too long, so in edit mode with the entry box and its text surrounded by the adjustment handles, I clicked on the right hand end and dragged to the left to shorten the box. I can make the entry box smaller by doing this, but the text heading above the data entry field (the label of the variable to be entered) is also shortened by the same proportion, even though the text heading is much shorter than the entry box. This ruins the form and is very unsatisfactory.
I cannot find how to separately adjust the input field without affecting the text heading.

As noted, the text heading is above the input field.
In form design mode, if I use ‘Add field’ to add a field for the same database variable, the field has the text heading to the left of the entry box, rather than above the box as was created by the wizard. I cannot work out how to get that new heading above the entry box rather than to its left.

I am using LO 4.3.4.1 on a Mac. I am new to LO and am sure many other people must have designed forms before without issue.

The wizard creates datafield textboxes and their label boxes as GROUPED PAIRS. So you need to ungroup such a pair before doing your size adjustments to either of these (2) elements. (You can re-group after you have done this).

How to do it: right-click on a label-datafield object and choose group>ungroup. You can re-group using this menu also.

Thank you! That was not obvious. I could not find that information in the documentation.

Have you any idea why they are vertically stacked in one method of creation and side by side in the other?

I think it’s just for ‘layout design’ and compactness/neatness reasons. But in form edit mode you can change the layout to whatever suits you - just treat the options offered by the form design wizard as a starting point.
