Styling text from layouts in Impress

When I add a slide with a layout like “Title, content”, the text box that is inserted for the content seems to behave differently from other text boxes that I can create.
Selecting any text in the text box that is present in the layout, the “New Style from Selection” button is grayed out, and I am not able to apply any style except “Outline 1” to the text in the box.

If I create a new text box, the “new style from selection” button is not grayed out, and I can apply any style I like.
What makes the two boxes different, and how can I apply a style to the text box that is provided?

I’m using Impress 4.2.7.2 on ubuntu.

You are right, there are different types of text boxes.

1 - The content text box
Here you have the styles outline 1 to 9 depending on which outline level you have. All formats are defined in the Outline 1 to 9 styles and you can modify each style to match your requirments. These styles are in the Presentation Style tab at the top of the Styles&Formatting window.

2- The text box which you can create using the T-icon.
The default formatting follows the Default style of the Drawing Style tab at the top of the Styles&Formatting window.
You can apply different styles and defined your own styles

Styles&Formatting window can be opened e.g. F11
