How can I insert files and maintain footer content in Writer?

Hello,

I want to make a song book, and I have many files of songs, each one page long with copyright info in the footer. I want to make a song book where I insert each file one one page of the song book and keep the footer content in tact for each file, so if I change something in the original file, it will be reflected in the song book. How might I go about doing this?

I have used Insert->File, but the footer was not included, and I needed to create a page break after each song. Is there an easier way to insert a file and keep the footer and formatting for each file?

John

You could try MASTER DOCUMENTS. Chapter 13 of the Writer Guide which you could download called “Working with Master Documents” is very useful here. However, you do not say what MANY is 10 or 100 or 500. Master Documents was not really designed for hundred of small files but tens of larger ones. But certainly worth a try.

If you did not need to update individual files, I would have suggested in turning of the footer, making certain variables like page numbers were in the header. Then the detail pertinent to each file will stay unchanged.

Putting the two together, try MASTER DOCUMENTS with no FOOTER. Then when you update the “FOOTER” in each file, it will update in the MASTER. Hope this helps Peter
