I found the above site to ask questions on, but the Ask site seems more authentic.

Should I panic?

That would depend on your definition of "legitimate". The alternate user forum was originally setup as an interim solution by users, for users, but with the knowledge of the Document Foundation (TDF). It is still active and merely offers a differ form of interaction. A simple, clear question / answer (which is less common than one might expect) is probably best asked on this TDF-provided site, whereas lengthier discussions of more complex issues are IMO better suited to a typical forum. The other forum also experiences fewer technical issues than this one.

Caveat: I am a moderator over on the alternate forum.
