What experience has been made upgrading LibO from "launchpad"?

I am newbie in Linux and consider to upgrade a Linux Mint 17.1 LTS machine as well as a kubuntu 14.10 machine using LibreOffice Packaging in Launchpad
Both distribution are based on Ubuntu.

What kind of experience was made in such a constellation?

What experience has been made with other upgrade methods outside the normal Ubuntu upgrade cycle?

From https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa updates are pretty fast and always worked so far. I always add that PPA on Ubuntu-based installation. Ubuntu repos tend to be slow to get an update, and they’re always older, likely based on the Still branch.
