Set multiple template folders?

Hi, I am able to change the default path for templates, but I’m wondering if (and how) it’s possible to set multiple paths/folders.

In the “options” section I set my deafult path for templates, for example:

C:\my_templates

Now what I would like to do is create subfolders, for example:

C:\my_templates\company_A
C:\my_templates\company_B
C:\my_templates\company_C

And then in LibreOffice I would like these subfolders to be visible in the template section/manager.

Can this be done? I haven’t been able to figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated!

Try a Sub Folder for each Company in:

C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 4\share\template\common

Or as it applies to your file system. This is the LO folder for the included Templates.

This is on Windows 7, 32 bit, LO 4421.

UPDATE:

So I created template folder, with Company A, Company B, Company C as sub folders. I placed a Template file in each folder.

Then in Tools, Options, Paths, Select the Template Path, Edit, Add adding in each of the paths created above.

They then showed up (because I had a template file in the sub folder?) in the Templates, All Templates in the template manager.

That’s not what I’m looking for. I do not want to use the default path.

I want to change the path where my templates are being stored (for backup purposes). So I want to use a custom path with custom folders. Can it be done?

Yes, you can use several paths. But there exist some restrictions:

  • Exact one path can have write access.

  • When you will have added a path in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Paths, not the path itself will show up in the template manager, but each of its subfolders will correspond to a folder in the template manager.

  • All files, which are in the root in the added path and not inside a subfolder, will show up in the folder “My Templates”.

  • You cannot add a folder to other paths than the write enabled one via template manager, but you need to create such folder using your operating system.

  • It is not possible to use sub-subfolder.

  • When you have moved templates to a folder somewhere, you need to “Refresh” the template view or you restart LibreOffice to make LibreOffice aware of the changes.

I have organized my templates in a way, that I move my finished templates to a path outside of any LibreOffice or Apache OpenOffice installation. I use those templates from different installations. Only those templates, which design is not finished, I keep in the writeable path of the user folder of the dedicated installation.

It sort of is working right now. Strange thing is that in “options” I only have added the new folder, and now the subfolders are automatically shown in the template manager. I don’t need to add them. I can also save in these folders. So it seems to work now … not quite sure why it didn’t before actually.
