Is there a bug when saving to Excel formats?

I can open xls and xlsx formats in Calc but can’t save back to Excel. ANY Excel-compatible format I try in LO 4.3.6.2 generates this message: "This document may contain formatting or content that cannot be saved in the currently selected file format “Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP/2003”. A previous LO version, 4.3.5.2 insisted I was trying to save in “Microsoft Excel 2007/2010/2013 XML”.

Regardless, when I click the button to save in whatever Excel format it says I’m trying to save in, Excel subsequently objects. It attempts a repair, then opens the document in a tiny, non-resizeable window, with all the columns set to a narrow width.

I’m on OS X Snow Leopard. Excel for Mac 2011 14.4.3.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is csv, tab-delimited, a possibility for what you are doing? Or dBase, although Excel cannot write to dBase I think, only read, so that would be a one-way road.

I confirm this bug in OS ML with Excel 2011 and 2016; the xlsx spreadsheets can not be resized.

ALWAYS save as .ods format - saving as anything else risks losing data and formatting.

You have presumably switched off the warning LO gives you - switch it back on in Options.
