Which version do I need for everyday personal use. Fresh or Still. I have Windows 8.1 English

I am hoping to download Libre Office in place of my Office 365. I need to know what the correct version is for everyday use, ie, letters and opening attachments etc…

For everyday use I personally would go for “still”.

LibO has in every version the same functionality (except for very new features) and you can simply use what you like to use. I installed it recently for a nine year old PC beginner and he is happy with it and made his first Impress presentation at school. I am using it for my business, and I happily walked away from MSO Professional and never regret this move.

My “strategy” on Windows 8.1: I keep at least 1 (in fact more) well proven version(s) in the PortableApp mode (from a .paf.exe) and install every fresh version from the msi. This way I try to have at hand (and learn about) the most recent features (and bugfixes) and can easily return to a “still” version if need may arise, sometimes only for a single non-typical document.

Although Fresh and pre-releases are updated often, they also fix problems and improve features everytime. Besides, you don’t need to update every single time a new version comes out, assuming you could.
