LibreOffice will not start

Attempting to install Libreoffice on Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca - Cinnamon 64-bit. Downloaded the package and ran the following terminal command from the DEBS folder. sudo dpkg -I *.deb.

LibreOffice 4.3.7 for Linux 64bit

Menu items are created, but when selected will not launch libreoffice writer (etc.) From a terminal I run libreoffice (or soffice) and receive “/usr/bin/libreoffice: 161: exec: /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/oosplash: not found”

How can I recover oosplash?

Which packages have you downloaded?
What is the “debs folder” and which files are there - can you ls -l *.deb that?

I had this same problem after upgrading another package on my Debian system recently. It appears that there is some sort of dependency problem with LibreOffice. For me, upgrading LibreOffice fixed it. here’s how:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice

After running these commands libreoffice works as expected but is now version 5.
