Thin negative space in writer?

I have a big URL in one document and slashes in http:// are visually too much apart. Is there a way to insert negative thin space between them, like \! in LaTeX, for instance, so that they come closer together?

Do you know the spacing feature available via > ‘Format’ > ‘Character…’ > tab ‘Position’ ?

Choosing the ‘Condensed’ option should offer inserting negative spaces (in tenths of points regularly). There is also an option to scale the width for the selected part of text. This may, of course, not be as simple as you want it.

Are you bound to use a font with fixed width for your URL? You won’t reduce the spaces fort i and l then, will you? In case of not fixed width the spaces following slashes should be rather small anyway.

PS ‘Scaling’ down seems to be broken in Calc 4.4.3.

Great answer. (I’d like to condense maybe more than by 2.5pt kern, but it is good enough). Scaling the width is no good, it makes the slashes thinner. I’m using CMU Sans Serif, not a fixed-width font, no worry. Also, changing character properties makes it black (even though it is a part of blue hyperlink), but that can be worked around by setting the color by hand to blue again.
