I find older backups from day before or hours before. But never current. Why is that? The program freezes every couple weeks and being able to find a current backup would make it so nice.

If you evoke the backup created by Tools ▸ Options ▸ Load/Save ▸ General ▸ Always create backup copy,
it is performed on update of an already saved document.
