I experience sloow operation in calc (LibreOffice version 4.4.4.3) after making a few edits. Saving to disk restores speedy operation until I do a few more edits. The spreadsheet is approximately 417KB (as shown by file explorer), I am running Windows 8 (U.S. English) on a Toshiba laptop with I7 quad core, 8 GB ram. Task manager shows only 2.8 GB of 7.9 GB total memory in use, 62 MB of that is ‘soffice.bin’. I also had the same problem with the previous version of LibreOffice. What can I do to increase performance?

Please try resetting the user profile. I think there was an issue similar with accessibility time ago. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

Try using OpenOffice calc on a new ods.
Then try using OpenOffice calc on the LibreOffice.ods.
I have the same problem with LO calc (LibreOffice Version 3.6.7.2) and switch to OpenOffice calc
See if this works for you.
My experience:
I used OO until I wanted RTF functionality and the OO User Group suggested using LO (year 2011), but both OO and LO RTF functionality were dismal.
LO finally enhanced RTF functionality in 2013 (but I did not discover that until 2015).
I now use LibreOffice Version 3.6.7.2(due to using Windows 2K) writer for RTF and OpenOffice Version 3.4.1 for writer and calc.

As recommended, I switched to OpenOffice Calc to run my spreadsheets. There are some slight differences in formatting and formulas, but runs MUCH better on my system. Thanks for the help
