Impress: Change multiple copies of same image? / Import image by reference?

When making presentation slides with Libreoffice Impress, I often find myself re-using an image multiple times on different pages. If at some point I want to modify the image source, I then have to manually replace each instance of the image with the new file. I find this absurd.

With LaTeX for example, images are imported by reference, and if you change the source file, every time that file was used, the new one will appear instead when you recompile (obviously, since no copies are made).

Is there any way to have a similar functionality with Libreoffice?

You can put the image and the presentation together in one folder. When you insert the image you can set it to “linked”. That way the image remains external. When you make changes on that image, all places where this -now linked- image is used, are adapted. You only need to remember, when you want to move the presentation, that you no only move the single presentation but the whole folder, so that the relative references keep the same.

Thanks, exactly what I needed. This works, I hadn’t seen the checkbox for “Link” before.
