How can I un-set some formatting on styles?

I have some styles that I want to unset some settings, for example:

• Font size in a character style, so that it doesn’t change the size when applied.
• Font name on paragraph style so that it inherit the font name from its parent.

I searched all around to no avail, on MS Word, it suffices to erase the setting and clicking Apply.

I have the same question and i dont think the answer from alex kemp helps.

The Question is whether there is a functionality to, for example, explicitly deactivate the indent setting on a certain style. So that when this style is applied, there is no change applied on the indent of this text/paragraph/whatsoever.

I played with font size in character and heading styles and found that when you select part of a paragraph with Heading 1 style and apply a character style, the text will keep the font size of heading 1 but a different font face in the character style will override the font face in the paragraph style.

In style definition dialogs, you have a Standard or Default (I don’t remember exactly because my current locale is not set to English) button (the rightmost one). When you click on it, it resets all settings for that tab only to what they are in the parent style. This could spare the pain with @Lupp’s suggestion of erasing the style and starting again from scratch, in particular if your settings are “touchy”. Nevertheless, if it goes awry, erasing everything may be the only option.

Note that you must click Default separately for each tab.

You do this through the Styles & Formatting dialogs:

1. (menu):Format→Styles and Formatting (or F11)
2. Find the Style (from the side-panel)

3. (right-click)→Modify
4. (when complete) press OK

I cannot verify the validity of the older answer since I cannot find a way to set any attribute to something like “undefined” or “inherited from…”.

The only way I can suggest is therefore to create the respective style anew from scratch without touching any attribute you do not want to set, the new style formally inheriting from ‘Default’ only which seems to be a style of a “very special behaviour”.

I would support a feature request concerning an pseudovalue for attributes. The needed base of the functionality should already be implemented. (See CF e.g.)

There also is a specific case where something like an “undefined” option is available: the ‘Language’ setting under ‘Format Cells…’ > ‘Numbers’ offers a variant "Default - " followed by the preset locale.
