Ver. 5 won't start - missing mergedlo.dll, sal3.dll

Using Windows 10. Says installation successful but will not open because of these missing .dlls. Re-installing has no affect.

Refer to Q56386 and specifically to the Microsoft Fix-It website (“Automatically repair issues that block program installation or removal because of corrupted registry keys”). That should help in a proper removal of LO & a clean Registry. Then (crossed fingers) a clean re-install.

One problem with this suggestion is that the Microsoft Fix-It website throws up a bit warning that “this version” of Windows is not supported by the Fix-It website. I’m running the latest W10 developer’s preview, so perhaps that’s why. But, I’d expect Msft to recognize that too.
