Update All Indexes and Tables results in Writer hangup

I had a writer document which contains a Table of Contents and an Alphabetical Index. This was working before. Now when I go to Tools - Update - All Indexes and Tables the writer never ends. One processor is 100% busy with soffice.bin (LINUX). Only solution is to kill soffice.bin and restart with recovery.

If I only update the Table of Contents, it works. Any update on the Alphabetical Index results in the hangup loop.

Any hints what I can do or should I open e bug?

Regards Rainer

Hi Rainer,

There was a thread about it here. Once I had an issue with soffice.bin. It was not closing on OpenOffice 2.3.1 WinXP. Here's another solution on the forum.

A spam in disguise? (given that both first links have nothing to do with the question, other than word "hang", and the third is a spamlink)

Hi Mike,

I won't pay attention to your rude manner of commenting. I tried to help with the issue, that's it. And if I have files in a certain archive, that doesn't mean I try to spam about it.

No, I wasn't rude: I taken steps to clarify the situation. If I was sure, I'd simply remove your answer without notice, after flagging it offensive (to have your account flagged). But I asked. If you don't appreciate that, it's your problem. To resolve that, you should at least remove the spamlink that isn't required for your answer, and is off-topic on this site (I don't even ask to read question and try to provide actually links to relevant answers).

I happen to be the person that have fixed the bug mentioned in your second link (about multiple soffice.bin processes), so I know very well that neither manifestation, nor mechanism is related to the question. The first link points to an issue about "non-working" sorting function, that nothing to do with hanging when updating indexes.
