Mail merge to email will not work

I cannot get mail merge to email work, when I test the settings (tools/options/libreoffice writer/mailmerge to e-mail) I get the following :

LibreOffice could not connect to the outgoing mail server. Check your system’s settings and the settings in LibreOffice. Check the server name, the port and the secure connections settings

If I create a new user profile (delete profile) the test passes, once I close the program upon opening again the test returns the error above again.

I am using windows 10 with LibreOffice 5.0.2 x86_64

Have had no problems in the past using windows xp with LibreOffice 4

Any ideas ?

If i delete ‘user’ to force creation of a new profile when i first enter details at tools/options/writer/ mail merge to email and test the settings it passes both tests. After closing the program then re-opening writer testing the settings again returns the message posted. (always passes network test)

I’m leaning towards this being a windows problem (i am running windows 10), i installed libreoffice 4.2.6 which works fine on my windows xp computer. Same mail merge to email problem occurs
