Linking to Chapter Headings

I am really struggling with placing hyperlinks in the Index which link to each chapter heading of a book I am editing. I am doing control K to insert the link and then Target in Document, hitting the radio button and then opening up Headings but this lists sub-headings as well as main headings (Main headings are done in Heading 1 and sub-headings in Heading 3) making the heading I want difficult to find. Once found I am double-clicking on this to insert the link but it adds # before the heading and /OUTLINE after it.

a) How do I make it when I open the Headings it only shows the Main Chapter Headings (Heading 1)
and
b) How can I make it just take the text as per the Chapter Heading rather than adding the hash tag and /outline before and after it?

Any help would be appreiated as it is very frustrating after using Microsoft Office!

Hi Jasper. I’m no expert, but here goes what I think:

a) You can’t — all headings will show up. You can’t even collapse some of them. At least up to LO version 5.1.2.2. I guess you can file a feature request somewhere.

b) Are you saying that the hyperlink display text changes to the hyperlink URL? So, if you link the words “my heading” to “14.5.Some heading|outline”, the text on that link becomes “#14.5.Some heading|outline” instead of “my heading”? (This sometimes happens to me, other times, it doesn’t.)
