I needed to log things in a document and used the insert time command to keep a running chronology of the events as they occurred. When i reopened the document I found that all of the instances where I inserted time of day were overridden by the current time of day, this happens every time I open the document, is there any way to recover the document so it has the original correct chronology?

When you insert the Time Field make sure it is fixed. It will then insert the time you insert the Field. You must have it set to just Time in which case it will update the Time to the current time. You cannot recover the original Times.
