Followed the “Create a desktop icon” suggested. Windows 7 uses a yellow folder - the same icon for every shortcut. Absolute RUBBISH, Bill Gates!!! It would only have cost you 10¢ to produce that one!!! Does anyone know if there is a different icon which will shout out "Hey, this is LibreOffice - a wonderful FREE program? TYIA.
Right-click the link (icon) and select properties, there is an option to select a different one.
