When downloading 5.0.3, why can only install word?

When installing, I have the option to check the boxes for the different applications I want to install. But the Word box is the only one I can click. I am trying to get spreadsheets. Can someone help me please? If I install it that way, as I have done several times, I am unable to use Calc as I need.
Help!

Please specify the win version and the link you downloaded LibreOffice from.

Hi gusmandave

Under earlier versions of LO the different components were downloaded & installed as individual components. That is now no longer the case. The single file that is downloaded contains every component of the entire suite of Apps (which is why it is so huge).

The launch icons that are ultimately provided are normally all shortcuts to the identical binary, but with different parameter options to launch the individual components. You can investigate this for yourself in the following manner (the example below provides a huge amount of output; I’ve cut it short here to aid readability):-

Linux: soffice.bin

Windows: soffice.exe

MacOSX: soffice

:~$ locate soffice.bin
/opt/libreoffice4.4/program/soffice.bin
/opt/libreoffice5.0/program/soffice.bin
:~$ /opt/libreoffice5.0/program/soffice.bin --help

--minimized keep startup bitmap minimized.
--invisible no startup screen, no default document and no UI.

--headless like invisible but no user interaction at all.
--help/-h/-? show this message and exit.
--version display the version information.
--writer create new text document.
--calc create new spreadsheet document.

-n always open documents as new files (use as template).

The ultimate launch icons/buttons/menu items/shortcuts/etc. vary wildly according to OS & local considerations. There have also been many reports of stuff going wrong at that stage. If you wish only to make a quick manual repair, try this:-

If the Writer shortcut uses a command:

soffice.bin --writer

…and you want a similar shortcut for Calc, then create another shortcut containing the command:-

soffice.bin --calc

If this helps then please tick the answer (:heavy_check_mark:)

…and/or show you like it with an uptick ()

As @Axel Kemp already stated, the LibreOffice installer will always install the complete application which is consisting of the components ‘Writer’, ‘Calc’, ‘Draw’, ‘Impress’, ‘Math’, and ‘Base’. You only cxan choose with respect to lamguages and filters (import/export).

Since you quoted somethging concerning “Word”, this is likely to refer to the MS-Office(R) text processor. You supposedly talk of an offer to associate files with the newly installed LibreOffice version during install. If you run the installer till it finishes, you will surely be able to use ‘Calc’ (the spreadsheet module of LO). To associate documents with LO that were saved in a format native to MS-Excel you can also use system means in hindsight.
