Hi Folks,

New user of Libre here and so far it is doing the business.

I was using Open Office, but unfortunately OO keeps crashing File Explorer on Windows 8 and it seems it has not been fixed so I installed LO instead.

Just thought I would say adjusting the memory works great, mine now goes like a rocket having set it to 400 meg.
I would venture to say for modern machines the default memory settings are too low, but it is what it is, a pop up the first time the prog is opened would be useful for newcomers, because of the lagging I thought my computer was downloading updates, lol.

The menu shown above can be found at…

Hi OP, as @Timon1 notes, please try the latest release of LibreOffice and see if that is faster for you. If not, please consider filing an enhancement bug with specific information about what operations are slow for you.

I’m a Kubuntu 14.04 user. I have an 11,000 row LibreOffice spreadsheet with 60 columns of data and formulas. My sorting macros would GRIND, and finally crash LO. I went back to my backup 13.10 Ubuntu system, and the sorting macros would complete in a few seconds. Blaming KDE, I was ready to blow away the Kubuntu 14.04 system UNTIL I went to the LibreOffice website => http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-stable/ and downloaded the newest stable version from their site. That fixed the problem!!! Just read the README file included in the download for detailed installation instructions.

Turns out the Kubuntu 14.04 repository has another version of LibreOffice in its repository, and IT DOES NOT WORK WELL AT ALL!!! It’s SLOW and CRASHES frequently when sorting, saving, and filling a large spreadsheet. I wish I knew who to contact to get Kubuntu 14.04 to update their repositories to build LibreOffice Version: 4.1.6.2 (or higher).

I started having problems with LibreOffice opening very slowly until I cleared the list of recent documents (File → Recent Documents → Clear List), then it started opening very quickly again. This started happening after I had created a more complicated spreadsheet with charts. Was happening on both Windows 8.0 and 8.1 using LibreOffice 4.2.

Same here but on LibreOffice 4.2.7.2 Build ID: 420m0(Build:2) and for Ubuntu 64 bit. This seems like definitely a bug because why should the Recent Items list affect entire performance of the application.
