How to remove read-only from a doc?

I never want read-only but my docs keep coming up with it. Why and how do I specify write enabled on the whole document?

I have the same problem. Can anyone help?

I have just had the same problem on a Mac. The document remains locked even if saved as DOCX and moved to a Windows machine.

The culprit was this setting, weird as it looks.

Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Compatibility > Protect Form

This behaviour is documented in the LibreOffice Wiki (which is where I found the tip).

That helped, but once. If I save the document, the next time when I open again, it shows only read mode. That strangely happens only to docx file format.

No, it does not have any effect on my Ubuntu 20.04.

  1. Quick cheat, useful if you upen really read-only file (mail attachment or url for example) - Menu: Edit - Edit mode
  2. If you open local file. Check you have write permissions and read-only flag not set for file.
  3. Read-only mode by default can be set in document properties (File - Properties - Security)

Win 10
Had the same issue. My desktop link to my password-protected file would only open in “Read Only” mode. In my case, the desktop link pointed to the file location on my home network. [desktop link to the network location of a file stored on the local SSD].
My solution was to delete the existing desktop shortcut, then resend a shortcut to my desktop.
[R click the file - Send To - Desktop (Create Shortcut)]
