Changing format of selected paragraph instead changes entire document

Sometimes when I try to change the format of a paragraph by selecting the whole paragraph (manually) then changing something like boldness or character size (via hotkey or UI buttons), all text in the entire document is changed (eg, bolded) instead.

This behaviour persists even after closing all LibreOffice documents (I checked task manager and no LibreOffice processes remained) then reopening the offending document.

Is there something I could be doing wrong here, or is this definitely a bug?

LibreOffice: Version: 5.0.3.2
Build ID: 1:5.0.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty2

My System: Linux Mint 17.3 XFCE 64-bit (with kernel 4.3.3).

It looks as if the AutoUpdate option has been selected.

On the Organizer page of the Paragraph Style dialogue there is a check box named AutoUpdate. See Chapter 6 “The Introduction to Styles” of the LibO Writer Guide for more information. If this box is checked, any changes to the paragraph style will be actioned for ALL those paragraphs.

To find this box, bring up the STYLES AND FORMATTING (PF11) and select MODIFY for the Paragraph Style in Question (right click, modify) and check that this option is NOT selected. Hope this helps…Peter

yep, that was it, thanks - for some reason I’d just assumed it meant it was updated when its parent was
