Why do Default Style paragraphs show in the ToC

I am slowly going crazy here, so I may become incoherent;

I have a multi level numbered outline headings document. The paragraphs under the headings are “default” style.

When I create the Table of Contents I set the number of levels to THREE, which is less than in the document.

When the ToC is generated the Default style paragraphs are displayed in the ToC. That’s very undesirable.

I set the ToC level to 1, but the default style paragraphs still appear.

I also read that I should remove all direct formatting (Select All > Clear Direct Formatting). I did that, but is has no effect other than losing me lots of work on the specialised formatting I did :frowning:

Short of trying a different word processor, any ideas for a solution?

Open the properties of the Default Style, go to the Outline tab and set its outline level to “Body text”.
