how do I make a global font change in Writer?

I have a Writer document that uses a deprecated font. When I open the document, a different font is substituted. When I Modify some Styles (Paragraph & Character), I can change the font. With other (I’ll call them ‘stubborn’) Styles, I can Modify the font but the document retains the substituted font. If I right-click in text of such stubborn Styles and select Character, I still find the deprecated font selected in the Font tab…

Is there a way to change all instances of a font in all Styles? Perhaps ‘under the hood’ in the .xml version of the document?

Help appreciated!

Hi

You can try ToolsOptionsWriterFonts.

You can change there the font used for different categories: Default, Heading, List, etc. Default specifies the font to be used for the Default Paragraph Style. The Default Paragraph Style font is used for nearly all Paragraph Styles, unless the Paragraph Style explicitly defines another font.

Do not forget to check Current document only: specifies that the settings apply to the current document only.

After changing the option you should probably select all text, then Right clickClear Direct Formatting.

I’m not sure how this will work for you, but you can use the find/replace utility to find all instances of the old font and change them, regardless of which Style they are associated with. You have to check Font under Attributes, then go to Format and check the font.

Alternately you could do a Select All, Clear Direct Formatting, but you will lose all special formatting.
