LO 5.0.4 crashes before I can do anything

I am running LibreOffice 5.0.4 on Windows 7 (64-bit). Or at least, I’m trying to run LibreOffice. The program will start up, but as soon as I do ANYTHING (like, for example, type the letter “T”), the program crashes. Also, when opening an existing document, the document will appear on the screen for a fraction of a second, and then the program crashes. When I try to start the program again, it does give me the option to recover the data, but if I tell it to recover, the document again flashes on the screen and crashes, and if I tell it no, the program will open up, but again, crash when I do anything.

Multiple spots seem to think the problem is with my user profile. I have completely deleted my user profile multiple times. That hasn’t helped, although if I delete the user profile, it will not ask me on start up if I want to recover my previous document (just to prove I am, in fact, deleting the profile).

I saw several reports that there was a problem with LO 5.0.2 and OpenGL, and I found a registry setting to run to hard disable OpenGL. I did that, but that hasn’t helped.

I uninstalled the program. I went into “C:\Program Files (x86)” folder and manually deleted the “LibreOffice 5” and the old “LibreOffice 4” folder. I went in to “C:\users\jkc\AppData\Roaming” and deleted the LibreOffice folder. I ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. I restarted the computer. I re-installed LibreOffice 5.0.4, started the program, typed the letter “T”… and the program crashes.

I did notice that, when I re-install, the profile is being put in “C:\users\jkc\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4”, which tells me that some settings are still hanging around somewhere since it keeps using 4 instead of 5, but I’m at a loss as to where they are or how to get rid of them. (Yes, I used 4 before I upgraded to 5 several months ago, but 5 is so much better than 4, I really don’t want to go back to 4, I’d much rather get 5 working again.)

I don’t see any entries at all in the Event Viewer. And the really annoying thing is the program ran fine for a long time on my computer, right up to the point when it didn’t run any more.

EDIT: Feb. 11, 2016 - I just tried upgrading to the new 5.1 after completely uninstalling 5.0.4, and I have the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Please?

Hi

Thank you for your detailed description of the problem and what you have tried. I have same platform (Windows 7/64) and I not had problems with version 5.0.4 (however I had to make the registry’s change for version 5.1).

First point, the location of your profile folder is ok since version 5 use that of the previous version. See release notes.

My install steps are:

  • Uninstall previous version
  • Delete user profile
  • Clean registry

So… same as yours :frowning:

One possibility is a defective download of the installer. Click Info on the download page gives the Hash you can verify.

[EDIT]

One way to understand the problem might be to create a bug report including a crash report. This wiki page explains the steps.
