Where is an explanation of number format/recognition?

i wish to display 123.0 or 123 as 123 space space & not right justified. I’m using 1 decimal without a leading zero & wish to eliminate trailing decimal zeroes via #.# without success.

i would assume number alignment would align numbers on the last whole number digit. thus
12.34 12 12.00 & 12.3456 would all align on the two. where is the explanation of number format & how to delete trailing decimal zeroes or do i have to now learn calc? the 4.2 writer guide is of no help. if i understand oweng’s answer 789 & .789 would both be right aligned. ludicrous but thanks

i fear i was not specific enough. i am trying to align numeric data within cells of a column of a table. finding no explanation of how to accomplish this, hours of experimentation resulted in the following procedure.
select the cells in question. remove direct formatting. format paragraph & select tabs, decimal (who’da thunk) & specify the max # of decimal places. then table number format using the # symbol to suppress leading zeroes & training decimal zeroes. this works except in 1 case; bugzi

bug will be submitted. thanx ken

The related help page mentions alignment:

Specifies that numbers are always bottom right aligned in the cell. If this field is not marked numbers are always top left aligned in the cell.

Presumably the number format codes (help page) apply to Writer tables.
