Windows Install Uses System Drive (C:\) Despite Configuration To Contrary

LibreOffice installer tries to use the C:\ system drive no matter if you tell it to install elsewhere and with plenty of room in Windows temp folder.

Same question as this:

I am asking again for two reasons:

  1. This system apparently won’t let new users add comments (even if so, doubt someone would respond to a comment)
  2. The only answer there is wrong

Steps to reproduce

  1. Have C:\ drive with less than 400MB free
  2. Set Windows TMP and TEMP environment variables (for both current user AND system) to some drive with plenty of free space
  3. Start installer, try to install to another drive
  4. Blamo, it STILL wants to have 450MB free on C:\

I confirmed the TMP/TEMP environment variables are working correct by watching the installer unpack some things to the specified location.

So why is the installer STILL trying to use C:\ ??!!?? C’mon!

Another solution I saw was to use the portable apps format… sigh. There are two big downloads on the portable page with NO INFORMATION about which one to download, just a link to a release notes page that supposedly explains which to get, but DOES NOT.

VERY FRUSTRATED!!

Not sure why I can’t comment on mariosv’s answer, so doing it here. That method “works”, although it’s not accessible for more casual users, it gives no options to decide what components to install and requires about 1 GB of disk space. The Portable Apps installer takes 500MB, so is better

Since the only way to deal with this problem is one of these work-arounds, I would consider this a bug in the installer without a solution currently.

Hi @user456885, Please file a bug about this installer drive problem. The QA team will be happy to help you track down this issue! Thanks!

Take a look on:

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel

there is the explanation to install where you want.

When I try this, or what I assume you mean by linking that page, I get a popup telling me the same thing the installer tells me, not enough space on C, even though I’m trying to install it to D. Could you be more specific on what to do?

Hi @user456885,

If you still think this is a bug in the installer, and if installing the latest release doesn’t seem to fix this problem, please file a bug and provide a list of steps that can reproduce it. The QA team will be happy to help you track down this issue, etc.

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks!
