Shared Files are opening in read only mode

I have shared a folder and files inside (over a LAN network - Peer to peer). The permissions are for read and write for everyone.

The Permissions for Folder and files are - drwxrwxrwx and -rwxrw-rw- respectively

But whenever someone (from a different machine in the same network ) opens the file, it opens as read only file. (These are word and excel files - Libre Writer & Calc).

Post this if any other user (from network - for whom file opens in read only) changes it to “Edit Document” and saves the file, it changes its permission to read only for everyone.

My purpose is to provide read and write access to a shared file over the network to multiple users. Where the shared Calc file will be simultaneously accessed by multiple users and they can save the changes made by them

Hi, seems that once they open the file it is in essence theirs and so they should be able to go open properties and change status by un-clicking read-only.
Another tip is to have the receivers copy the file into a new document and then edit and send that back.
One question - when they send you files do you have the same issue? If so it is perhaps how the internal network is set up so the above workarounds may be to everyone’s benefits. If it is only yours, have you tried exporting as pdf - you can set it as readable and edit - open any document, click on file - export as pdf this brings up the option box. If you do NOT set a password [secutiry tab] then it automatically is set for editing by receiver. Best! az
