LibeOffice and MS Word styles

Is there a correlation between LibreOffice’s styles and those of Word? This is relevant to uploading a file into Kindle format?

@jorendc – This one’s for you :slight_smile:

Hi,

I hope I understand your question well, but there is a ‘correlation’ between the styles imported using LibreOffice and the styles used in Word. In LibreOffice we try to match them as much as possible. If this isn’t possible, LibreOffice will create a style as good as possible with the style formatting of that document. Do we have a 100% compatibility regarding styles and the general formatting of the document: no we don’t; but I think we already do a great job. There are many improvements of docx support in LibreOffice 4; but not all improvements will be visible for your documents. If there is a big issue (crash, data loss, several items not displayed), please feel free to file a bug for that: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/ .

Short summary: we do our best to match it with the styles we have in LibreOffice, if not, they’ll be created and matched as much as possible with the initial formatting.

I don’t see any problem exporting a document to your kindle. I don’t have a Kindle, but when I search for the ‘supported file formats’ I don’t see any file format, except for plain text, you can export using LibreOffice. Except you install an extension of course (I found this one: http://soft.alkinea.net/ ) (don’t know it works or not, as I said I don’t have a Kindle :slight_smile: ).

I hope this is an answer to your question?

Kind regards,

Joren
