Will there ever be a way to snap to ruler increments in Writer?

One of the last functions that does not let me migrate to LibreOffice fully and the abscence of which feels really annoying(and it was actually the same since the earliest days of Open Office and till this very day with Libre OFfice) is the inability to format the paragraphs using the ruler in a meaningful way (in Writer). It’s possible to move the margins and tap stops using the mouse, but there’s no way to turn on snapping to ruler increments, which would have helped greatly when one needs to set the paragraph indentation, for instance, to 1.5cm exactly. Moving it with the mouse can get pretty close (1.43cm, 1.48cm, 1.51cm), but getting it positioned to 1.5cm exactly is nearly impossible, so I have to set it manually by inputting the number into a dialog box. This pretty much makes the ruler useless (for tab stops as well as the paragraph formatting, by the way), since I have to do everything manually anyway. This has been a weak point in OpenOffice and is currently a weak point in LibreOffice (at least in my opinion), it has been so for as long as OOO and LibreOffice existed, while not only MS Office, but also the minimalistic AbiWord support snapping to ruler increments. Is such a feature ever going to be an option in LibreOffice?

I also think that the snap to ruler increments would be a very useful (and necessary) feature. Congratulations for the project guys and thank you for your job!

Have you requested this enhancement in the OpenOffice or LibreOffice trackers? Can you post here the tracker number?

I think the best is to learn the use of styles (F11), Writer is oriented to the use of styles, not the direct format.
Once learned the use of styles, hide the ruler is not a problem.

Hi Anonymous,

As others have noted, this would be a good candidate for a new feature in the LO office suite.

Please file an enhancement bug and provide as much information about this new feature as possible. Don’t forget to mark your bug as an ‘enhancement’. The QA team will be happy to help you triage your feature request in the bugtracker.

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks!
