Feature ability to move tables

On feature that is really annoying that it doesn’t exist is the ability to move tables around. I know you can go into table properties and move it there but that is very tedious and time-consuming. This is one of the features that I think is quite important. I know you could put it in a frame, but then that makes it incompatible with Microsoft Word.

As a workaround, you can select the table “as text” by picking at least one line before and one after the table: now you’ll be able to move the whole selection as a paragraph with Ctrl-Alt-Up/Down arrows, or just cut and paste at will.

Another way is to put the table inside a frame.

I said that I could put it in a frame but then it won’t be compatible with Microsoft Word. This is because they have Word on the computers at my college.

About selecting as text and moving up and down is lines, you cannot freely move the table.

i use frames all the time for this purpose. i would suggest placing a table in a text box for this purpose but can’t find any documentation on text boxes. note also that text boxes can be rotated which might be of interest to folks who wish to rotate things 180 degrees or other than the provided 90 & 270.

frames don’t work in Microsoft Word. They just appear as a big red X and the contents not visible.

If you have too many frames in a single document, it slows the software to a crawl. The frame method really doesn’t work.

Also, the Ctrl+alt+up/down arrows doesn’t work either, at least not in Ubuntu Linux as it is the controls to switch workspaces.
