White box prevents me from typing

The space on the left side of my page won’t let me type on it and I can’t figure how to undo that without deleting the part at which it started and re write it. Also the letters sometimes get really close together, why is this?

Looks like you have set a paragraph indent. Put the cursor at the start of the first indented line and select Format > Paragraph then the Indents & Spacing Tab.
