what is the best video format to use when importing into impress?

I like to use Impress to project short video files as part of a presentation, to avoid having to switch to a media player and back again. Impress occasionally crashes when I do this - always has, since at least 3.0. I tend to convert video files into .avi format, believing that Impress can handle them better.

Am I right? Is there a better format to use?

I wish I knew as well. Impress does not work very well with .mov files but it does work. I’m thinking perhaps impress was made for .mp4 files ask the best choice of video?
