Change all styles of a page or paragraph

Hi! I made a writer document full of page and paragraph styles. It's ordered, it looks great, and I'm loving writing with them.

But I forgot to change the margins of all the pages. Do I have to change all styles, one by one, manually?

If you don't mind setting uniform margins (which is the usual case), you can do that through page styles.

Open the style directory with Format->Styles and Formatting or F11. Click on the fourth icon from left (Pages Styles) in the tool bar. Right click on the relevant style and choose Modify.... Select the Page tab.

Unless you styled your document parts or pages, you only need to adjust Default Style, but there are only few page styles (compared to paragraph styles), so this is not a big burden.

As an improvement on your (paragraph and character) styles, you can organise them hierarchically, so that when you change some attribute (margins, indents, font, size, ...) in the "master" style, it is automatically cascaded to the "dependent" styles. With such an organisation, you can experiment with composition or lay-out in a very convenient and consistent way.

If you think this is an acceptable answer, please tick it for community benefit.

I needed to change the margins of all the page styles. But it's ok: next time, I will make hierarchical styles as you say. That will solve this kind of problems in the future. Really good info. Cheers.

The margins are defined in the Page style. Indents (before/after) defined at paragraph styles apply in relation to these margins.

So you can either use:

  • FormatPagePage tab to change the current page style,
  • or update other page styles (if used) in the SidebarStyles & Formatting pane▸click Pages Styles (4th from the left in the pane toolbar), then same dialog as above.
