I’ve found that each page number has to added manually-can this be avoided and be done automatically?
First create a header or footer: Format → Page... and go to Header or Footer tab; click on Header on or Footer on box. Click OK. This will set aside an area in the page for the header/footer.
This can also be done in the page styles if you prefer.
Then click in the newly created header/footer. Type and format whatever you want to appear there and insert a placeholder for the current page number with Insert → Fields → Page number.
