[Writer] How can I show the sum of a table's column on the main text?

I have a few tables with numbers. I can sum a column of a Table and keep the total at the last line. Or I can sum the content of one table and keep the total on a cell of another table.

But it seems that I cannot use the content of a table cell on the main text of writer. On the main text, I would like to refer to the sum of a table's column using a formula to keep the number updated.

Is it possible?

You can place the data in a one-cell table, which if inserted into a frame can be set to flow with surrounding, wrapped text.

That's a messy workaround. I'll avoid that. If there's no other way, I'll update manually for now.

I can use formulas on the main text, but I don't understand why I can't refer to table cells there. I'll try to suggest as a new feature.

  1. Select the text in the total cell.
  2. Insert->Bookmark..., give a name like total, click OK.
  3. Click in your text where you want the total included.
  4. Insert->Cross-reference..., Type: Bookmark, Insert reference to: Reference, Selection:the name you gave to the bookmark, click OK.

You're done.
