[Writer] How can I show the sum of a table's column on the main text?

I have a few tables with numbers. I can sum a column of a Table and keep the total at the last line. Or I can sum the content of one table and keep the total on a cell of another table.

But it seems that I cannot use the content of a table cell on the main text of writer. On the main text, I would like to refer to the sum of a table’s column using a formula to keep the number updated.

Is it possible?

You can place the data in a one-cell table, which if inserted into a frame can be set to flow with surrounding, wrapped text.

That’s a messy workaround. I’ll avoid that. If there’s no other way, I’ll update manually for now.

I can use formulas on the main text, but I don’t understand why I can’t refer to table cells there. I’ll try to suggest as a new feature.

  1. Select the text in the total cell.
  2. InsertBookmark..., give a name like total, click OK.
  3. Click in your text where you want the total included.
  4. InsertCross-reference..., Type: Bookmark, Insert reference to: Reference, *Selection:*the name you gave to the bookmark, click OK.

You’re done.

If this answers your question, please tick the grey checkmark to the left (and up it if it has value for you).

This way you cannot sum two tables totals, for example. And the unnecessary (for this case) link is added.
