= signs change into a line

Typing a series of ============= signs and then “return,” the line becomes a page-width black line. I cannot get it to go away (other than “undo” which I may think of only after doing some other important operatrions.

Any ideas??

The line produced is the lower border of the preceding paragraph. Right click the paragraph and go to Paragraph / Borders, and there you can delete it. Or select the paragraph and click Clear Direct Formatting.

Thanks VERY much. This had been driving me crazy!
One comment, though -
While the “Clear direct formatting” command did something, it merely moved the line up a paragraph.
So I tried doing this multiple times, moving up a paragraph each time.
Finally, on the previous page, I found another line problem.
Once I moved it up so that the two merged, the next time they both went away!
Thanks again!
