How can I open a EPS file

When I open the EPS file, it shows an block with source code text instead of a picture (in Draw). I was told I could use this software instead of illustrator but this is not working. please help

Will it work for you if you convert that EPS to PDF? You didn’t mention which operating system you’re using, but try GhostScript, it’s command line utility for GNU/Linux and Windows and it can convert EPS files to PDF. LibreOffice is good in importing and opening PDF files. You might also be interested in this: how to convert EPS to PDF using GhostScript.

This question has already been answerd: Import EPS on Writer won’t show the image. It’s about Writer but Writer or Draw – it doesn’t really metter.

There is a bug report also: #67464

EDIT:

I use LibreOffice 5.1.5 on GNU/Linux and I can import/open EPS and PDF files created with Gimp.

Have you tried opening the file with another software to see if the problem is inside the file and not in the software. You can try it like this: http://www.paintshoppro.com/en/pages/eps-file/ and if it opens without a problem, that would make it a software problem.

EPS = Encapsulated PostScript. Google it and find:

EPS is a file extension for a graphics file format used in vector-based images in Adobe Illustrator. EPS stands for Encapsulated PostScript. An EPS file can contain text as well as graphics.

A workaround is to convert it to a PNG in an image editor and insert the PNG. Or an SVG if you want the graphics to be scalable.
