Insert an external link to a html file in Writer

Hi,
I’d like to know how to insert a link to html in writer.
Suppose I have a html file (say table.html). Now, how is it possible to link to this file in a writer document.
I see, it is possible to dynamically link to Images.
I tried OLE (no success), DDE (no success), searched for user-defined fields (no sucess).
Is there an equivalent of dynamically linking to an external html file in Writer?
Any idea is appreciated.

Since you are mentioning OLE and DDE, you want to display content of that HTML file live in Writer and be able to update it in Writer when table.html change?

I would do it like this (although it may not be the best way): Insert → Section… Name a section (text box on the left). Check ‘Link’ on the right of textbox with table name. Click Browse and navigate to a html file. Click Insert.

Now, when you update html file and you want to update it in Writer, choose Tools → Update → Updat all (or just Links or what ever is that you want to update).

[EDIT] I just noticed that you can insert that HTML table as OLE object but not trough Insert → Object → OLE object menu.

Instead do Insert → Frame → Floating frame. Name it, click ‘Browse’ and navigate to the HTML table. Click OK.

To resize this new OLE object, press F5 for Navigator to pop-up. Double click on your object under OLE object category and grab one of those green handles to resize.

Seems OK, table shows up, but in the header, doesn’t seem to move if text moves down, strange…
Hmmmm, let me think about it…

What do you mean by ‘in the header’. Section should expand as you add text to a table. If you inserted it in a page header, you might make same changes to header appearance so it can hold whole table (but header did expand automatically when I tried this). Try to go Format → Sections. Select your section name and uncheck ‘Protected’. Maybe that is causing problems.

Ok. Got it. Works like a charm. Thank you!

If problem is solved, could you mark this question as answered?

Kruno, where do I set a mark “question answered”?

At the top of my answer you’ll see a little check-mark. Just click it.
