bad font export pdf in windows10

Hi, I am trying exporting to pdf from Libreoffice (writer and calc) V4+ and 5+ on Windows10 with different fonts. All characters show up only as boxes and some symbols in pdf. Any solutions? Thank You.

You do not say what language settings you are using. At first glance it looks as if you are using fonts that do not support the actual Unicode characters. Are you using Asian or Complex Fonts? TOOLS > OPTIONS > LANGUAGE SETTINGS > LANGUAGES > DEFAULT SETTINGS.

If you are using Windows 10, what language settings does the system have? Anyway, that is where I would start… Peter

If the character is this means that the character is invalid. If it is a rectangular box, this means that the character is valid but the font being used does not support it. If you have sets of two or meaningless three letters this usually means that the system is not recognising Unicode characters.

I assume that you are storing the document as a .odt or .ods file and not MS .doc(x) nor .xls(x). And you are directly exporting the file from LibreOffice as a .pdf and you are not cutting / pasting from one file to another. You should be able to open the .pdf file with LibreOffice DRAW to check whether it is not a .pdf creation problem.

Hi Peter. The languages settings are all default(English U.S.) Windows and on a fresh LibreOffice install. Fonts used are Arial, Verdana, etc. The problem seems to have started with Win10…

What are the actual language settings? For example if English is it British English or American English. It may well be that your Windows system is set to one of their own character sets, for example Wndows-1252. Are ALL characters showing as boxes or are letters like aAbBcC $ £ € á ç or ĊŊǼʗЩӚ. What happens if you cut and paste to a new document? An, of course, it may be that the font is not available with the PDF viewer.
I suspect that the problem may be Windows 10 related and not LibreO.

Default Win10 on US English. Does a cut-paste to new doc perfectly well. Adobe viewer never had issues with the same fonts(Arial, Verdana) earlier. Lots of boxes instead of alphabets with numbers and symbols sprinkled around.
