all options for merge cells in calc are greyed [closed]

All options under format--->merge cells are greyed out and inactive. Cells are not protected. How do I correct this condition?

Make sure Edit/Track Changes/Record is not selected. Disabling that fixed it for me.

Under normal conditions, these menu items are grayed out if the current selection includes only one cell. They are not deactivated when the selection includes at least two cells.

If that's not it, you may be have a problem of "corrupt profile." See this FAQ
