Problem preparing a document for conversion to epub.

I have the task of preparing some documents to be converted into e-pub format using Calibre. Calibre does not load an odt file without errors. It prefers docx. If my file has images around which I have put borders, those borders disappear when I save the file as a docx. Is there any way around this?

I was using styles for the headings but direct formatting for the image properties. Your suggestion gives me something to try. I'll do some test documents, and see what happens. Will get back to you. thanks. jim

Have you used styles for adding the borders or just direct formatting?
It should work better using styles.
If you haven't done it yet, try to read:
