EDIT: This seems to be a problem in Xubuntu 12.10 and not specific to LibreOffice. Same behavior is replicated in other programs (DocViewer, GIMP, etc.)

Using v3.6.2.2 on xubuntu linux. Just upgraded ubuntu to the latest version (12.10) last week and reinstalled LibreOffice. When I open and/or save files, the file browser does not remember the last location. Libreoffice always resets to the default path (/home/myname/Documents) when I close and reopen, but while working in Libreoffice, it does not save the last path. Example: I open a document that exists in /home/myname/Documents/testing/ and try to open a second file. The file browser window opens /home/myname/Documents/ instead of /home/myname/Documents/testing. This does not occur in LibreOffice 3.5 on xubuntu 12.04, which I use on another computer. How can I get LibreOffice to remember the last path?

Sounds like a Xubuntu bug. Please file a bug report with them if the problem persists for you. Thanks!
