Different spacing for just one paragraph keeps reverting

I’m doing a paper that is double spaced except for one block quote which needs to be single-spaced, and somehow the it keeps reverting to double-spaced for that paragraph every time I open the file again in LibreOffice Writer. Any idea what it is that’s doing this?

How did you apply line spacing? Using styles or using direct formatting? Besides, how can you have two different line spacings for one paragraph?

direct formatting, i guess – highlighted it, right-clicked and changed it on the “paragraphs” option

it’s one paragraph that I am trying to make single spaced, with the rest of the document double-spaced

You need two paragraph styles to mix single and double spacing, a paragraph will have only one spacing. PF11 to bring up the sidebar and then choose STYLES AND FORMATTING the PARAGRAPH styles. You need a paragraph set to double spacing and a normal default left at single. Then you can flip between a single spaced paragraph and a double spaced paragraph.

That’s right! But that reverting part is weird. It can happen if some other style reapplied to that paragraph or by clearing direct formating from right click context menu or with keyboard shortcut Ctrl + m. It could happen by accident if one is trying to capitalize ‘m’ with Shift (finger can easily slip to ctrl insted). For that reason styles should be used.
