how to create different size columns in different cells

I create a lot of spreadsheets, I am very use to exel but am having difficulty with this problem since moving to libre calc and cant seem to find a simple answer. basically i want to do is-

  1. open a new spreadsheet, drag all the columns across to the sizes I want them.
  2. go down to lets say, cell row # 20, high lite the whole cell row across the page & merge them (basically so I can split the page into 2 halves)
  3. go to cell row #21, and be able to drag those columns to a desired width without affecting the ones above row 20.
I am sure there must be a simple way, its driving me nuts!
    Thanks!

I don’t think thats possible even with excel. Width of spreadsheet columns is adjusted by selecting the edge of each column header and dragging left or right, there is no separate header after the merged row to allow the second page to be adjusted. The closest that I have seen to what you describe is with tables in a word document, where each row can be different width columns.

Can you put the next page onto the next worksheet in your spreadsheet document.

You can merge cells in a different pattern of columns in each of the two sheets, but this can be quite a mess and should really be avoided.

You could also use Writer to format your pages and insert Calc tables as embedded objects for the tables.
