How do I get my computer to download the newest version of Libre office I have windows 10

It says I have to be running as administrator and it deleted my previous version Where do I choose to run as administrator I am not on a network. Only a singe computer

Hi

You have hit one of the side-effects of User Account Control (UAC) (introduced at Windows Vista & continued ever since in all subsequent versions).

User Account Control (UAC)

Before Vista, almost every personal desktop-Windows user operated their computer as an Administrator at all times; they did that because it allowed them full & easy access to all functions of their computer. Unfortunately, it also gives every virus/filelocker that they download the same level of access. That can be difficult for a personal user, but may be an utter disaster for any company that gets a virus/file-locker able to access any file across every network.

It was for this reason that UAC was introduced, and why the link at top says:-

“The recommended and more secure method of running Windows 10 is to make your primary user account a standard user account.”

Primary Users & Administrator

Note that “Primary User” & “Administrator” each apply to both isolated desktop computers as well as networked machines. You can have multiple users for a single computer, but only one administrator. Also note that installing/removing a program is an operation that can only be performed by an Administrator.

So, your computer should not expect you to be an administrator to download a program, but is certain to want you to be an administrator to install a program, and/or remove the previous version. You therefore should have two completely different account logins for your single-user machine:- one as an ordinary user, and a second login to allow you to perform all admin functions on it (the latter being known as “elevating” your account).

LO help on Install under Windows

If this helps then please tick the answer (:heavy_check_mark:)

…and/or show you like it with an uptick ()

You could also try the

portalbe LO Versions, these as far as i know should not need Administrator Rights to install.

These can be downloaded from here:

https://www.libreoffice.org/download/portable-versions/

Hope that helps.
