LibreOffice Freezes On Startup

I am running LO on Linux Mint, using the Xfce desktop. Occasionally the green logo screen just freezes. The only solution is to go into Task Manager and kill the soffice.bin process. After that the problem has never arisen again during the same session. There is no particular pattern as, sometimes, I can start LO several times during a session without the problem appearing at all.

I have tried using the --nologo parameter. In that case, whenever the problem occurs, LO just appears to freeze with nothing at all appearing on the screen. Consequently I don’t think that the problem is connected with the display of the logo itself.

The problem occurs regardless of whether I am starting Writer, Calc or Impress.

I am now running v3.6.3.2 but this issue has been around from about version 3.5 onwards. I am running a Dell laptop with an Intel dual-core processor. I also use the same version of LO on an Acer with and Intel processor with no problems.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to the cause, or is there an event log I can examine or some way of tracing the process at runtime?
